So a while ago, my father gave me a loan. It was desperately needed at the time---I was between law school and my first job, I didn't have a lot of ready money on hand. And I was so grateful, using my brand new JD to draft a "contract" that stated the repayment terms. (He was an incredibly forgiving loan administrator too; I just shot him a text any time I didn't think I could wrangle a payment in a specific month.)

Since my dad is quite old school, he wanted written checks as opposed to cash transfers or app payments or what have you. So I fell into the habit of writing him letters to accompany the checks---nothing particularly interesting, but for a man Of His Time, who was never quite sure how to talk to his daughter, I think they did a lot to make him feel connected to me. (Especially since this was purely between us, not something that needed to be triangulated or arranged by my mother.) I wrote him letters about everything from the mundane to the lofty to the mundane again---what I was reading or the things I was thinking about; about Chicago or my job, whatever I was doing that month, loneliness, the power or music, etc.

A couple of times, I wondered (and then wrote in the letters themselves) whether this was something he liked, if he still wanted this? Was this boring? Because I could stop---

---and every time, he would get the letter and immediately text me to say, No, don't stop writing.

The loan has been repaid for a while now, but I would be lying if it didn't warm the stupid cockles of my heart when my father reaches out and says, Hey, I kind of miss your letters.

The Significance of the Key and how it ties back to a Cut Scene

So two-ish weeks ago I reblogged @le-trash-prince post remarking in the tags that I had noticed an old-fashioned key by Kim's hand.

Which that observation got promptly forgotten in the wake of all of that with the feeding scene. (Can you blame me?)

But today in episode 8, we get this scene:

Kenta handing off an old-fashioned key to Pete to investigate - one we learn through mostly a flashback (and Kenta explaining) that it was from Way and held ties to a secret group inside Tony's organization. (One Way was in or at least had enough dirt on that Manit tried to recruit him for his knowledge to overthrow Tony.)

The whole scene, but these two sentences (only half seen in the first pic) I've screen shot really pinged something in my brain.

"Before the incident with the Chen family, Way handed me this key." "And I ended up in jail."

It reminded me of very similar verbiage of this behind-the-scenes sentence that we know got cut from the show.

That got me thinking that what was cut from the feeding scene was Kenta showing Kim the key and giving a condensed and/or vague explanation of what we learned in episode 8.

Which, considering what I know of television writing and storytelling, makes absolutely perfect sense why it got cut.

If we were already going to get the exposition of the key through a flashback and Kenta explaining it to Pete, then unless Kim himself is going to be the Key (pun unintended) to its eventual use and/or discovery of its use - then there is no need for the key to be introduced during the feeding scene two episodes prior. Hence why the whole key part of episode 6 was cut - the show is working with a limited amount of time to fit as much content/plot in the narrative as possible, so anything unnecessary is going to hit the editing floor.

(Could they maybe have edited out the cut parts a little more smoothly? Sure. It was likely hard to not include any shots that had the key. Could they have maybe shot something to fill that cut content? Absolutely. Likely through the limited time and money left for the editing, what aired was the best they could manage.)

It does, however, mean that we as the fandom can take that canon-adjacent information and apply it to the narrative of the story/plot (through meta or fanfiction or whatever) if we so choose to! 🤗🤗

On another note:

I am about 99.9% sure that this box right here is what the key is going to open. We'll just have to see if that's the case in later episodes!

im like. so im trying to figure out just what Bilbo's internal conflict is like, and after reading the book and watching the movies, I've determined that it's a lot Took vs Baggins bullshit. Now what's confusing is that????????

When he's feeling Tookish, he is wide eyed and curious, asks a lot of questions, and works well under pressure; this is where we see his silver tongue. he is naive but he can bullshit his way around anything. hes far more accepting like this, open to new concepts and ideas and other things. like this, he is probably at his wisest.

But when he's feeling Bagginsish?????? hes?????? hes so fucking sassy??????? he's so concerned with propriety and manners that he like?????? just thinks everyone is stupid?????? and thinks everyone is saying things that are completely outrageous????? hes incredibly stubborn. like this, he is at his strongest. and this is also where we see him be an absolute bitch- a passive aggressive one, but a bitch all the same.

idk. im not sure if this is correct or not??? but this is how i differentiate them. I feel like the Tooks were a very wise family, very happy and free, good mediators. while the Bagginses were stubborn little fuckers who were incredibly strong willed and pessimistic beyond belief.

it literally said in the book that you would always know what a Baggins would say at any moment, which implies that a Baggins trait is being stubborn about beliefs and values and such. mind you, they were good values- but they were particularly vicious when it came to opinions.

idk i feel like it is this combination of traits that got him through the quest, and also helped him give up the ring. gotta be stubborn to deal with dwarves. gotta be open minded to get over the culture shock that comes with adventuring with dwarves. gotta be open minded and strong willed to give up the lure of the one ring.

i mean he was an oddity for this stuff, but overall i think its what saved him in the end.

jirai is a subculture which originated in japan and translates to ' landmine ' ! it is typically used on people who are explosive and or have very instable emotions ( like a landmine being set off ! ) ofc these are typically a result of mental illness so many people who are apart of the jirai subculture normally have some sort of mental illness

normally it is associated with behavoirs such as self harm, drug abuse, sw, types of eating disorders but not every jirai takes part in these and not every jirai only takes part in these ! there is no one size fits all kind of jirai !

ofc people often like to paint us as the ' dark side of jirai kei ' which is a little silly to me as thats literally what jirai is ! jirai has a strong relation to the dark girly kei fashion but wearing dark girly kei ≠ being jirai

Rewatching TFA, for the hundredth time in a row, and I've got to say. I used to think Sari was, kind of annoying, during my first initial watch and sometimes. The things she does makes me go wide-eyed and gripping at the screen going, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"

But then now, as I'm rewatching it hundreds of times over. I have to physically remind myself that she is a child.

And not only that, but she was a child that was BARELY raised properly. She didn't have other children to socialize around, she had a robot teacher, a robot dog companion, and her occasionally in her life father who was busy manufacturing robots, entertaining the ideas of tours and etcetera.

So maybe, yes. I can definitely understand why she does rash things, and act the way she does. I understand why she's seen as a social outcast amongst other groups of kids (like in the show, ON HER BIRTHDAY).

And I'm not as mad as her, as anybody should be for a child who was raised/taught the wrong things or having not been taught at all.

However...
